A Watchtower is a spirit guardian of one of the four cardinal points of Wicca. Alternately, the Watchtowers are the abodes of the guardians. Often believed to represent the four elements, the Watchtowers are invoked during ritual to cast the magic circle. They may be pictured in the imagination or represented with pictures or other physical symbols.
In many Wicca and Witchcraft systems the Watchtowers are symbols of spiritual beings known as the Guardians. Each Watchtower is associated with one of the four quarters of north, east, south and west. In some traditions the Watchtowers are associated with the four elements of air, earth, fire, and water respectively.

WHO ARE THE GUARDIANS OF THE WATCHTOWERS
The Guardians are just exactly what their title suggests, protectors. They protect the magickal circle from outside negative influences and energies. The Watchtowers represent the four sacred elements and cardinal directions: fire-south, water-west, air-north, and earth-east. They exist on the boundary between the earthly and the astral worlds.
The Guardians of the Watchtowers should be called after creating your circle, in deosil order (clockwise) to protect the magickal circle, and dismissed in widdershins order (counter-clockwise) at the close of the circle.
